20 Weeks and a Baby Bump

Hard to believe we are already at 20 weeks.  As a matter of fact, I’ll be 21 weeks on Wednesday.  Whoa.

We had our 20 week sonogram today.  You know, the one I was supposed to find out the gender at, until we cheated and got an early sono at Stork Vision {for $65, too!!}.

I’ve been so nervous about this appointment for several days.  I really thought that we were going to walk in there and the sonographer was going to tell us we were not having a girl and it was actually a boy.  I even thought about rescheduling the appointment, this morning, for no good reason.  Ridiculous, I know, but I’ve been afraid to get too excited and afraid to get too sold on the idea of having a girl.

When I first walked in to the door, there was a couple sitting at the receptionist desk and had a little girl running around them {running around in a “cute” way, not in a “wild child” way :) }.  The little girl looked to be about 3 or 4.  We made eye contact and I smiled at the mom.  She looked at me and the receptionist and then said, “I just have no idea how I’m going to be able to handle things when I have two.”

I just smiled and nodded while the receptionist responded, but inside my head, I was laughing out loud.  I’m freaking out about having THREE little ones and just praying that I maintain my sanity during the first year.  Sister, you’ll do great.

We went in for the sonogram and he took all of his measurements and told us everything looked healthy.  Yay!  He then asked us if we were interested in knowing the gender.  I told him we already knew from a previous sonogram but I was afraid he was going to tell us they were wrong.

He confirmed it.

He showed us everything that proved the point and I’m a true believer now.

We’re measuring a day ahead, so since my original due date is August 1st, it will be interesting to see if we have an August baby or a July baby.  Because I had Langston 10 days before my due date, I spent my entire pregnancy with Riverson telling myself I wouldn’t go to my due date.  Probably because I had that feeling the entire time, that’s the exact reason I went to bed in tears the night before my due date and he came a day late!  I’m not making ANY guesses this time.

If you’ve been reading my blog for long, you’ve probably heard me mention the SITS girls before.  I regularly follow them and get lots of ideas about my blog.  I even won an awesome Oreck vacuum from them a couple of weeks ago but that’s for another blog post.  Anyway, they’ve been doing a series on Pinterest and photography and I’ve learned a lot.  One of the most recent posts was all about how to take better self portraits.

I’m not a big fan of taking pictures of myself because I’ve felt like made me look kind of vain and I hate making the impression that I’m all about myself.  However, one of the reasons I write this blog is to have something my kids can look back on when they are older.  In some ways, it’s my love story to them.

In an effort to show them more pictures of me, I’m taking a leap and being a little vain.  I love seeing pictures of my parents when they were young and I want to leave that for my kids, too.  Today, you get a peek at the baby bump in it’s current state.

I know that during pregnancy, your allergies can get worse, but mine seem to be out of control.  It has a whole lot to do with the crazy weather in North Texas, but I’ve been miserable at night and when I wake up in the mornings.  Sometimes my eyes itch so bad that I feel like I could scratch them out.  Anyone know what I’m talking about?  Therefore, my glasses, which I rarely wear, have become my new best friend.

My midwife today recommended using the sinus rinse to help out with things.  I’ve never done it before but I know many people who rave about it.  It’s time for me to do something, so NeilMed Sinus Rinse, here I come.

Other than my allergies, I’m feeling great and loving the sweet kicks I’m feeling regularly now.

I’ve been trying to explain to Langston that there’s a baby in my belly, but he pretty much just looks at me and laughs.  He probably just thinks his mommy’s just chubby.  I’m hoping he picks up on it soon.

  5. I’ve been thinking about that self-portrait post, too, because I almost always hate pictures of myself. But you’re right: I love photos of my mom from when she was younger and we were little. I think yours ended up being terrific. You have fabulous hair and that shirt is really flattering. Your little girl will love these pictures someday!
