Sister Act on Stage at Dallas Summer Musicals

This week, my mom and I had the pleasure of getting out together for a fun show in Dallas. It was opening night for Sister Act at Dallas Summer Musicals and we couldn’t have been more excited!

The past few months, I’ve had my first experiences with musicals and y’all, I have fallen in love. I’m so thankful Dallas Summer Musicals has given me free tickets in exchange for promotions of shows like Mary Poppins, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and now Sister Act. I’ve had a blast and every show has really blown me away.

I fell in love with Sister Act over twenty years ago, when Whoopi Goldberg took the big screen by storm as a hysterical, not-so-natural nun living in a convent. To this day, anytime that movie is on, I can’t help but get sucked in because I just love the storyline and music THAT much!

Sister Act

To my surprise, the music in the musical is different from that in the movie, but it’s just as catchy and leaves you dancing in your seat.

As much as I loved the music, dancing, and costumes, the message behind it all was my favorite. It was a true tribute to friendship and finding confidence in yourself!

The story follows Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look—a convent! Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

It’s a feel good musical that leaves you laughing and dancing in your seat, and smiling all the way out of the theatre.

Sister Act, presented by Dallas Summer Musicals, will be on stage at Music Hall at Fair Park until June 16th. Find more information and buy your Sister Act tickets here. Parental guidance is suggested for this show for ages 9 and up.

Pretty Muddy Mud Run Gives Back #GetActiveWithON

This post is sponsored by Old Navy, however, all opinions are my own.

Last week, I told you all about a new fitness adventure I’m embarking on June 1st. The Pretty Muddy Mud Run is coming to Dallas and I’m all in! I have no experience in mud runs and really not sure what to expect but I know one thing, for sure. It’s going to be FUN!

pretty muddy mud run

Pretty Muddy Mud Run

The Pretty Muddy Mud Run is a 3.1 mile race full of mud for women (sorry guys) to enjoy together! The course is filled with 10 obstacles including, among others, a 20-foot inflatable mud slide, an A-frame cargo net climb, and, of course, mud pits! The whole race is untimed, which allows you to just focus on getting through it, instead of how fast you can do it.

The best part may be what’s waiting at the finish line! Following three miles of achievement, the ladies will have music, entertainment, drinks, and a Pretty Awesome celebration waiting for them!

Following the race, runners will be treated to a fashion show by Old Navy Active. Participants turned muddy models will walk the catwalk showcasing the latest in active wear trends.

Women of all fitness levels are encouraged to join teams, wear costumes, and just have an all around awesome time together!

Pretty Muddy Mud Run Gives Back

To celebrate the Pretty Muddy Dallas debut, Old Navy is supporting Pretty Muddy’s partnership with Susan G. Komen Dallas County by donating to the charity $5 for each of the first 2,000 participants.

The money raised will support programs that provide no-cost breast cancer education, screening and treatment for area women.

In addition to the donation, Old Navy and Pretty Muddy are offering free registration to the Pretty Muddy event to 250 breast cancer survivors. Breast cancer survivors simply need to visit www.prettymuddy.com to secure a complimentary slot.

So what you need to do to relieve the stress from everyday life is to run yourself through some MUD!! Who’s with me?? :)

Free Fun at the Fairview Splash Park

I’m not sure how I’ve missed this hidden little gem, but there is an awesome splash park tucked away at the back of The Village at Fairview. Thank goodness, some of our playgroup friends introduced us to this free fun last Friday!

When we got there, the boys were a little timid to head for the water. I’m blaming it on the fact that this was our very first water activity for the “summer” season. To be honest, I had to borrow a swim diaper since I’m totally unprepared for all of our water activities that are about to begin. :) Plus, I keep wishing Riverson will just magically wake up and decide to start using the potty. Wishful thinking, I know. ;)

They both quickly fell in love with the random fountains shooting water in to the air.

fairview splash pad

I loved how Riverson never failed to be surprised when the water shot in to the air.

And every time, he got just as excited as the time before.

fairview splash park

I loved seeing this happiness on his face. Knowing how much he loves the water, he was in heaven here.

They could have played here for hours and it was so nice for me to be able to sit on the side with my friends and catch up on what’s going on in our lives.

I DID learn a few things that are good to know for the next time we make our way back there.

For starters, it’s good to get there early because there are a few tables with an umbrella covering them, but they fill up fast and from what I’ve heard, if you don’t get there by 10:30 in the morning, they’ll more than likely be taken.

Of course, if shade isn’t an issue for you, there is plenty of space to spread out a blanket and have a little picnic setting.

Next time we come, I’m also planning to bring a water toy or two. The boys seemed to be jealous of everyone who had their own toy.

It’s so nice to find free activities around Dallas where I can take them to get worn out and be ready for an awesome nap by the time we’re finished. Those are always my favorite acitivities! :)

Getting Fitness Crazy with the Old Navy Pretty Muddy Mud Run

This is a sponsored post as part of the Pretty Muddy Mud Run and Old Navy Active Gear wear.

If you’ve been keeping up with my latest fitness updates, you know I’m smack dab in the middle of a serious workout and diet plan and I’m loving every minute of it. Earlier this week, I shared a couple of pictures that made me cringe to put up there, but one of them is a girl from my past, a girl I hope I never see again. It’s a much larger ME!

I’m working out in my living room 5 times a week and walking around with sore muscles the rest of the time. For some reason, it totally motivates me when I feel that pain. It helps me know those workouts really are kicking my body in to gear!

And speaking of kicking my body in to gear, I’m about to do something way out of my comfort zone two weeks from tomorrow. I will be participating in the Pretty Muddy Mud Run in Dallas!

Pretty Muddy Mud Run

The Pretty Muddy Mud Run, sponsored by Old Navy, will take place on June 1st, at Skyline Ranch, which is located at 1801 E Wheatland Rd Dallas, TX 75241.

This mud run is a 5k adventurous obstacle course mud run for any woman who wants to get outside, spend time with friends and have fun getting a little dirty. And most importantly, it’s just for women! Sorry boys!

But, they wouldn’t care about the post-race Old Navy fashion show as much as we do, anyway. That’s right, Old Navy will be showcasing their latest active wear fashion trends! Here’s a few things to know about the Old Navy Activewear line:

  • Old Navy Active collection offers an assortment of styles and colors at an affordable price.
  • Old Navy Compression Collection features everything from solid color leggings to color block capris, sports bras, tanks, shorts and jackets, and offers performance fit for added support and a slimmer silhouette.
  • Designed with the highest level of technology, active items are made with cotton, spandex and GoDry Fabric, which quickly wicks away moisture, keeping you dry and comfortable.
  • Flat lock seams and tag-free labels prevent chafing to ensure you stay focused on fitness.
  • Old Navy Active pants offer fuss-free storage of keys, iPods or any other workout essentials.

Within the next couple of weeks, I’ll be posting a review of an Old Navy Active Gear outfit, as well as providing you with a little more race information.

Until then, why don’t you sign up to run, too!! I’m getting way out of my comfort zone on this one but I couldn’t be more excited!!

Allstate Foundation is Teaching Teens & Parents Driver Safety

Now that our oldest is almost 14 and a half, we are so close to being forced to let her drive. It scares me to death to think of everything that will be involved in taking this HUGE step for our family. Not only that, but the girl is like any typical teenager in that she’s attached to her cell phone, and THAT scares me more than anything! Fortunately she’s very responsible and I know she’ll be ready when the time comes, but it’s still so hard to believe it’s actually time for this.

I’m so thankful for an upcoming opportunity for us to learn a little more about the best ways to teach her to be a successful driver.

If you live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, I’d love you to join me at the Drive it Home Show, presented by the National Safety Council and Allstate Foundation, Thursday, May 23, If you have tween, teen, or are concerned about teen driving safety, it will be an informative (and entertaining!) event. Please feel free to share this post with anyone who might like to attend. Details are as follows:

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

I attended my very first musical not too long ago when Jeff and I had a date night to see Mary Poppins. And, until then, I really had no idea what I was missing out on.

Theatre was one of my favorite classes in high school, so I feel a little disappointed that I’ve waited this long in my life to enjoy such amazing productions. I’ve never been to New York to see a show on Broadway and with three kids under 4, it’s not really on the short list of things that must happen in the near future. Maybe in a few years, though.

But, if I can’t go to New York to see a show on Broadway, I’m more than excited to catch the latest musical right here in Dallas, in Fair Park, actually. Thanks to Dallas Summer Musicals, we still get the opportunity to see amazing shows!

On stage now, is Priscilla, Queen of the Desert!

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

priscilla queen of the desert   This is the perfect opportunity to grab a couple of girlfriends, get all fixed up, and head out for a great show together!

This show tells the story of three friends on the roadtrip of a lifetime, who hop on a battered bus in search of love and friendship in the Australian outback and end up finding more than they could have ever imagined. It’s an uplifting story with a great message about standing up for your friends and being true to yourself!

Featuring more than 500 dazzling, award-winning costumes, Priscilla features a hit parade of dance-floor favorites like “It’s Raining Men,” “Finally,” “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “I Will Survive.”

Amazing costumes, fun music, and an uplifting story — it sounds like a show you just can’t miss! I know I can’t wait to see it!

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert will be showing at Music Hall at Fair Park until May 26th. You can read more about the show and  purchase your tickets here. Please note: This show is not recommended for children, as some topics are not appropriate.

Shady’s Burger Joint

We already feel super spoiled when it comes to everything our neighborhood has to offer us. We are very connected and we LOVE the small town feel it gives us. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, a few neighborhood guys came up with the idea to add a family friendly restaurant, called Shady’s Burger Joint, and we couldn’t be more excited about it!

shadys burger joint

This past weekend, Jeff and I got really brave. We took all three of our littles out to dinner at Shady’s.

It was my cheat day from my Revolt Fitness plan and this was all I could think of: “Go big or go home!” Going big meant I needed a big burger!

We started our meal with some fried pickles, which we practically had to fight to get any before Riverson, who’s 2, finished them for us.

shadys burger joint

Our burgers were delivered shortly after and oh my goodness did they look incredible.

Jeff ordered the Blue Buffalo, which includes Shady’s Buffalo Sauce, blue cheese, bacon, lettuce, and tomato.

shady's burger joint

My burger was the El Shady. It was UH-mazing! For me, the best part about it is the fried egg on top, but it also comes with chorizo, cheddar cheese, and grilled jalapeños.

shadys burger joint

It’s massive, and so not part of my fitness plan, but what the heck. It was my cheat day! ;)

Our boys had the kids chicken strips with french fries and a cookie.

Just a little tip for my mom friends: Grab that cookie from their tray and hide it before your waiter has a chance to put the tray on the table. It will save a lot of headache if your kids are like mine and dream about sugar constantly. :)

Speaking of moms, or ladies in general, they told us they’re working on a skinny margarita to provide on their menu! Woohoo!

Not only that, but they are starting to offer live music every 2nd Thursday of the month!

I just love the family friendly feeling we get when we’re there and it’s an added bonus that we usually see someone we know.

With the outside patio and delicious food to offer, we might have found a restaurant where we can take our 2 and 3 year old on a regular basis. There’s just something about being outside that can make kids pretty happy and if that’s during dinner, I call that a win in Mommy’s book. :)

The best part about it all? We don’t even have to leave our neighborhood! So if you’re looking for a family friendly restaurant in the North Dallas area, Shady’s is the place to go!

Shady’s is located in Richardson, Texas, just south of George Bush Turnpike. Take a look at their website to learn a little more. Like Shady’s Burger Joint on Facebook and follow them on Twitter, too.

Disclaimer: I wasn’t paid to talk about Shady’s Burger Joint or given free food. We’re just that crazy about it and I love seeing locally owned restaurants succeed!

Massage Envy Review and Giveaway

What does it look like when you think about relaxing?

Does it look like this?

Massage

Several things come to mind when I think about relaxing, and a massage is definitely one of them! I never get to get a massage and truthfully, I never really take much time to relax. I feel like I’m always on the go.

Last week, I forced myself to slow down and enjoy something just for myself when Massage Envy invited me to try out their massage. This was my second time to try their services and it did not disappoint!

When I first arrived at Massage Envy, I was led in to a small waiting room where I filled out a little bit of paperwork letting them know exactly what type of massage I was interested in and where I was experiencing the most amount of pain.

I was introduced to my massage therapist and we reviewed exactly what I was expecting with my massage. I was then given a quick tour of the facility and led in to a peaceful, spa-like treatment room where an inviting massage table was topped with a warming blanket and crisp sheets.

The massages are based on your comfort level and the therapists invite you to give your feedback at anytime. I only had to speak up one time and I’m glad I did. It made the rest of my massage amazing and I’m glad to know changes can be made at any time.

My massage therapist really made sure to focus on my neck and shoulders since I mentioned before we got started that I’m always carrying around at least one child and that has done a number on those muscles. I can honestly say I felt so much different at the conclusion of that massage. Truly, it felt like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. :)

When we finished the massage, and I had a chance to get dressed again, I was led back out to the front desk and given a glass of water to help flush the toxins from my body. I loved how attentive the staff was and constantly concerned about how I was feeling.

As I walked out of there, I honestly felt fantastic and I can’t wait for my next massage.

Massage Envy has a great Mother’s Day Special at all of their 31 DFW locations going on until May 12th.

Receive 2 1-hour massage sessions and Sugar Foot Scrub Therapy with the purchase of a $99 gift card.

or

Receive a Dual Service (1-hour massage session & 1-hour Murad® facial session) and Sugar Foot Scrub Therapy with the purchase of a $99 gift card.

But that’s not all!!

Giveaway: Massage Envy DFW would like to offer one of you a free 50 minute massage! Even if you wouldn’t like to use it for yourself, think about what a great Mother’s Day gift it would make for someone special in your life!

All you have to do is leave a comment on this post and you’re entered!

This giveaway will end at 11:59 on Wednesday, May 7th, so don’t delay!!

**Disclosure: I was given a free massage to facilitate my review but all opinions are my own.

Date Night at The Ballpark in Arlington

We have waited for baseball season to start since the fall and once January gets here, Opening Day can’t come soon enough. Jeff and I take every chance we can GET to get out to the Ballpark in Arlington. The Rangers are something we kind of bond over. We actually have great conversations about baseball and the dynamics of our beloved team. (Did you know we even got engaged at a Ranger game?? Sure did.)

This past Tuesday, we actually got to get a little date night in!

{Please excuse all of the iPhone pictures. There was no way I was hauling my big camera around.}

ballpark

Jeff’s mom took care of our babies while we hightailed it to Arlington, hoping to get there before they ran out of Yu Darvish t-shirts. They were only giving them to the first 30,000 fans that night.

We just barely made it in time and they still had some t-shirts left!

ballpark

We can never have enough Ranger gear.

Before we headed to our seats we were pretty caught off guard by all of the changes at the park, at least in the concourse area. (I don’t even know if that’s the correct word for it, but it’s where all of the food is.)

Especially where we sit, behind home plate, it looked COMPLETELY different!

The entire area leading in to the seats behing home plate is opened up. There are a few more food stands and these cute little tables are all over the place.

ballpark

I want one at our house. ;) It would fit in. I mean, we do have a stadium seat from the old stadium on display in our living room. :)

ballpark

Yes, that IS Nolan Ryan’s signature. We’re HUGE fans!

The other thing that caught my eye was this concession stand. {Of course I didn’t get a picture of it until we were leaving and they were all shut down.

ballpark

But, after I saw this place, it was literally all I could think about. I wanted to eat something from there and kind of made it my mission. There was just one problem. It was expensive. Maybe in concession stand terms it wasn’t, especially since they are serving steak, but $15 for a sandwich and some chips is just a lot to me.

ballpark

Jeff and I decided to split this yummy goodness and oh my word was it good!

ballpark

I would pay $15 again for that sandwich. It was really THAT good!

To be honest, I noticed a LOT of new concession stands around there and they all seemed pricey!

The biggest surprise was the new hot dog stand, which is WAY more than a stand. It is built in the middle of the concourse (again, is that the word?) and is definitely not like the little kiosk looking stands. This is an actual building inside of the ballpark. You can get their humungous 3 foot long hot dogs there. I saw several guys carrying them around, but it’s just not for me. :)

I’ll stick with my giant steak sandwich!

Another big change we found was in what used to be called the Cuervo Club, an enclosed bar/restaurant behind home plate. Because our tickets gave us access in to the club, we would ALWAYS go to the bathroom in there. They are much cleaner and no one is in there.

So, not only have they changed the name to the Capital One Club and made it bigger, but now we can’t go in there until after the 3rd inning. It’s not really a big deal, but I can’t really imagine telling that to my 38 week pregnant self who went to a game in July last year and waited in line for 45 minutes before the game just to be able to sit in the air conditioning for the game.

It’s fun to see all of the improvements they make at the ballpark every year. It’s always better for the fans and it still has the same great feel it always had, even with the changes.

Oh yeah, and the team’s pretty good, too! :)
