This week, my mom and I had the pleasure of getting out together for a fun show in Dallas. It was opening night for Sister Act at Dallas Summer Musicals and we couldn’t have been more excited!
The past few months, I’ve had my first experiences with musicals and y’all, I have fallen in love. I’m so thankful Dallas Summer Musicals has given me free tickets in exchange for promotions of shows like Mary Poppins, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and now Sister Act. I’ve had a blast and every show has really blown me away.
I fell in love with Sister Act over twenty years ago, when Whoopi Goldberg took the big screen by storm as a hysterical, not-so-natural nun living in a convent. To this day, anytime that movie is on, I can’t help but get sucked in because I just love the storyline and music THAT much!
To my surprise, the music in the musical is different from that in the movie, but it’s just as catchy and leaves you dancing in your seat.
As much as I loved the music, dancing, and costumes, the message behind it all was my favorite. It was a true tribute to friendship and finding confidence in yourself!
The story follows Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look—a convent! Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.
It’s a feel good musical that leaves you laughing and dancing in your seat, and smiling all the way out of the theatre.
Sister Act, presented by Dallas Summer Musicals, will be on stage at Music Hall at Fair Park until June 16th. Find more information and buy your Sister Act tickets here. Parental guidance is suggested for this show for ages 9 and up.
Disclosure: I was provided with free tickets to the show in exchange for online promotion.
