While planning out our bow stash and how to organize them all, I decided I wanted to do something fairly unique for our bow holder and getting to DIY one would have been even better.

So, I went to work and this is what I ended up with.

Supplies needed:

  • Chunky Frame
  • Spray Paint {I used Rustoleum’s Candy Pink.}
  • Sponge Brush and Rag
  • Glaze
  • Chicken Wire
  • Staple Gun and Staples
  • Wire Cutter

I started out with a chunky frame we had sitting around.  It’s never been on our wall because I hated the print that was inside of it.  I knew it would be the perfect frame for spray painting and glazing.

Because this was just too pink for me and I wanted to show off the texture of the frame, I reached for my glaze.  I love using glaze on furniture painting projects because it adds a vintage look to it.

This is my favorite glaze and can be found at Lowe’s, but there are many other glazes out there and they all achieve very similar results.

I apply my glaze using a foam brush and after waiting several minutes, I took a rag and wiped it off.  Yep, just wipe it off!  It leaves the glaze in the crevices behind and darkens the color of the paint.

Once I got my frame color exactly how I liked it, it was time for the chicken wire.  I unrolled a square that was bigger than the hole I was working with and used my wire cutters to cut it from the roll.  Easy peasy.

Next came the hard part, but fortunately it was the only hard part.  Using my staple gun, I went around the frame securing the wire to the inside of the frame.

After stapling all the way around, I was left with many little spots of wire poking out.

All I had to do was use my wire cutters and make the cut as close as possible.

This was the end result!

I wish I had a picture of it hanging on the wall, but after sharing it with a couple of friends, they were bought right out of my hands.  Not a bad problem to have! :)

I’m on the hunt for more chunky frames and can’t wait to make more!

This project was super easy and very cheap.  If you decide to try it, please let me know.  I’d love to see your result!

And if you like it, feel free to Pin It! :)
