I’ve hesitated writing this post for a while now because I’ve been nervous about sharing this project. Nervous because it’s different and definitely not for everyone. Some people may look at this pallet wood and antlers frame and think it looks ridiculous. Some people might really like it. Who knows. But one thing I’ve learned about decorating over the years is that you have to find your OWN style and do what YOU like.

I’m married to a hunter, which means his trophies are important to him. We have more than one deer head adorning our walls and even a bobcat. I fought it for a long time and had rules about where they could be hung and how many. But recently, his antler collection he’s had in the garage has started to grow on me. I decided to add my own touch to see if I might like them. After all, antlers are “in” right now in home decor. Spray paint, pallet wood, and burlap are a few of my favorite things, so I thought, “Why not?”

And that “why not” became this creation.

It’s rustic, which I like, but with my baby girl’s picture in it, it’s sweet, too. :)

The best part about it was how ridiculously easy it was. And because my husband was excited about me using a set of his antlers in my decor I got a little of his help in this project, too.

I threw together some pallet wood and secured them together using screws and more scrap pallet wood.

I spray painted the antlers white using Rustoleum Heirloom White and had my husband carefully screw them in to the wood. Since these antlers came from the first deer he ever shot, I thought it might be best if I let him be the one to possibly mess them up. ūüėČ

Once they were set, I used a little bit of white craft paint to paint over the screw.

I had originally planned to buy a canvas at Hobby Lobby and cover it with burlap but I happened to find canvases already covered in burlap while I was there. Yay for one less step!

I used my hot glue gun to glue the canvas down to the wood and I also hot glued a clip I already had on to the canvas. Easy peasy.

I added my sweet girl’s picture to the frame and fell in love. :)

All I needed to do now was get it hung on the wall. I had some D-ring hangers I screwed in to the back of the wood and added some 30 pound picture wire

I added it to our gallery wall, which is always a work in progress for me.

It’s different, and honestly, the antlers are still growing on me, but it’s fun and I like fun. I’m keeping it, for now. :)
