With all of the sickness in the air lately, we’ve been skipping a lot of play groups. When we miss playgroups, I miss seeing my girlfriends, and real life adult interaction is something I need on a regular basis.
I decided to do something about that and invite a few of my girlfriends over for an afternoon play date with all of our kids. One can NOT have a playgroup without food and drinks, so I set out to Walmart for some coffee and dessert.
The Starbucks Delicious Pairings display wasn’t as big or obvious as I thought it might be but I was able to find it without too much trouble.
My favorite part about this display was found when I got up close to grab my Starbucks Blonde Willow Blend. There was a great little sign telling me exactly what flavors to pair it with. Nothing like taking the guesswork out of a little event planning!
Since this coffee pairs well with citrus, I walked over one aisle and found some Lemon Sliced Creme Cake for the girls to try.

When I got home, I wanted to try out this pairing for myself before I served it to my girlfriends.
I’m a huge fan of Starbucks, but I usually just get a latte from an actual Starbucks store and I normally order the same flavor, every time. This was a nice change of pace for my coffee taste and forced me to get outside of my comfort zone.
I make coffee every morning at home, but I don’t think Starbucks has ever been in my coffee maker. I’m so glad I was able to make that change this week!
The coffee was delicious and I could definitely see myself brewing this again. After tasting the Lemon Sliced Creme Cake and then sipping the coffee again, you could easily pick up the citrus flavor, and it only made me more excited for my girlfriends to give it a try.
While our kids played with every toy imaginable in the house, my girlfriends and I got to sit back and relax, while catching up on our lives.
Only one of my girlfriends brews Starbucks coffee at home, but this particular blend was a first for everyone. Let me just say, it was well received! The girls loved the coffee paired with the moist lemon cake and even commented on how the cake brought out the citrus flavor in the coffee.
We did a lot of chatting and laughing, at ourselves and our silly munchkins.

The kids did a little sampling of their own and I even found my son hiding under the table eating some of the lemon cake.
He was hiding knowing he would probably be in trouble for stealing it off of the counter.
What can I say, the kid knows a good thing when he finds it. I couldn’t help but smile at him.
I would love to do this play date again with my girlfriends and maybe even make it a morning play date with coffee and breakfast goodies. I know my kids had a great time with their friends and it was so nice for me to have some adult interaction I so badly needed.

Yum! We brew Starbucks coffee at home all the time. (I’m a bit of a coffee snob! Ha!) But I didn’t know they’d also tell me what I should pair it with. What a great idea! And I LOVE playdates at home! They’re the best!
