I get a lot of comments about the baby names we chose, so I loved it when I saw MamaKat’s writing prompts for this week!
#4 was “Share how you came up with your kids’ names.”
Langston
We wanted his name to be different, with hopes that there wouldn’t be another kid in his school classroom with the same name.
We also wanted it to go well with big brother Easton’s name, who was 8, at the time.
Originally, we liked the name Jackson because Jeff’s first name is Jack and thought it would be neat to sound like “Jack’s son.” However, there were more and more people naming their babies Jackson and it kind of lost it’s luster for us.
Jeff came up with the name “Langston” and I couldn’t really wrap my head around it because it was different, even though different is what we originally wanted.
I’ll never forget being in the car with Jeff and his mom on the way to our 32 week 3D sonogram. It was frustrating our family that we couldn’t decide on his name.
My mother-in-law said, “Well, if he was running for president, would you rather people vote for Jackson Roubinek or Langston Roubinek? And that was it! I just liked the way Langston Roubinek sounded!
He has two middle names: Peck Wayne
I’ve always loved “Wayne” and it’s also my step-dad’s middle name. “Peck” comes from my aunt. Her son passed away when he was young, (he would have been much older than me) and his name was Peck.
Riverson
Yet again, Jeff came up with Riverson’s name.
Originally we had planned to name him Braxton. Actually, that was his name until very late into my pregnancy. I even ordered something with the name Braxton. Luckily it wasn’t expensive.
I went to my friend Courtney’s baby shower, who was due with a girl, at the time, and another girl at the shower asked what we were naming our baby. I told her Braxton and she said, “Oh, don’t tell Courtney that. That’s her boy name.” I had no idea, and after I talked to Courtney about it, she could have cared less.
We still decided to go a different route.
Jeff said he always liked the name River, like River Pheonix, and to keep it similar to Easton and Langston, we went with Riverson.
Because Jeff came up with his first name, I got the middle and it’s my maiden name, Pierce.
I think it’s safe to say he won’t be sitting next to another Riverson when he gets in school.
Brantley
Jeff knew that if we ever had a girl, there wouldn’t even be a discussion about her middle name because it would be Marie, the same as my mine and my mom’s. Luckily we had that checked off of the list long before we decided on Brantley.
Jeff came downstairs one Saturday morning, told me he had a dream about her name and said he thought Brantley sounded like a good one.
It took me a couple of weeks to accept it, but I started to love it and liked how it went with her big sister’s name, Hallie, which is pronounce HAL-lee and not HAY-lee like she gets called a lot.
We kept her name a secret until she was born, so now, even at 6 months old {TODAY} I catch myself calling her B Marie, which is the only information we would give out until she got here.
I wish I could give you the story on how our big kids’ names came about but I wasn’t a part of that conversation.
I do LOVE both of their names, though.
So tell me, how did you come up with the names for YOUR kids??

Oh my… I could write a novel. My oldest’s name was one I used in a story in the 7th grade. It stuck with me. Son’s name was a misheard introduction to my husband. Funny story. And #3-5 all have names with significant meaning according to the time in our lives. That is the short version.
I absolutely LOVE how unique your names are!

I don’t know if you remember me (to me you are Ms. Pierce) but you were my Spanish teacher at Melissa! I remember you talking about your plans for your wedding, it’s funny how far you have come! At some point when you were pregnant with Brantley, one of our mutual friends on facebook shared one of your blog posts and I go back and check up on your page every once in a while. I think your family is perfect and I love how you have developed your mommy blog. The story of Brantley’s birth was just incredible too!! This is an interesting post because I may or may not have just found out I was pregnant with my son the last of my junior year. Let’s see that would have been 2007, were you still in Melissa then? Well now my son is 5 years old and he is just perfect! I named him Elliott Grey DeVoe-Rutledge but he goes by his middle name “Grey”. I also wanted something different but not too cutesy and my grandfather who was southern born and raised went by the nickname Grey because the confederates wore gray uniforms. I knew I wanted it to be his middle name because all the men on my dad’s side of the family go by their middle names so I wanted something really strong and presidential to go with it!
So I picked Elliott! I would say hope you are doing well but like I said I blog-stalk you every now and then and looks like you are doing great!!
So happy for you!
Your kids have beautiful names and the stories behind them are awesome.

My daughter is named after my Grandma & that’s her full name. My Grandma didn’t use her name most of her life and in fact in her obituary we had to write her nickname or no one would have known who she was. She went by Bobbie. I knew the day she died that my first daughter would be named after her. I was kind of ecstatic to find out I was pregnant with a girl so I could name her after her Great Grandma.

Madison Sage- We got her first name from a river in Montana (my very favorite place on earth!) Her middle name came from the Sage that grows not far from the river. When we picked Madison it wasn’t all that popular. When she was around two years old, it became insanely popular
Kevin Alexander- First
name is simple, It’s his daddy’s name. His middle name came around in two ways. When I was pregnant with Madison (before w e knew she was a girl) we were throwing names around with my parents and my father suggested Alexander (after some famous football player) When Kevin and I were dating we watched Fools Rush In a lot. The main male character’s name is Alex. So when my father suggested it, it really suck. My father has pretty much named three of his four grandsons.
Emma Ree- I have two sisters, Emily Carol and Megan Ree, I took Emma from Emily and Ree from Megan. But it goes deeper then that. My great grandmother’s name was Hazel Ree and her mother’s name was Emily Pauline. I’m proud to keep these names in the family. I always love Ree. It’s so unique and interesting.
I lost three babies and were able to know if they were boys or girls so we were able to name them.
Brockton Taylor was the first sweet baby I lost. Brockton is a town in Montana. I heard in when I was like nine and always loved it. Taylor, I got from my brother Wil Taylor. Bridger Wayne was baby number two we lost. I got Bridger from a mountain range in Montana. Wayne is his daddy’s middle name. Abigail Marie is the third baby we lost and also Emma’s twin sister. I got Abigail from a show I used to love and Marie is my middle name.
How fun! I love your names, I’m a huge fan of the unique. I chose this prompt, too, and blogged about my daughter’s name (Syndil). It’s great to “meet” you
Ha, entered my blog url wrong in the form. Btw, I LOVE the name River. Do you cll him that for short?
