About 6 weeks ago, I joined a local boot camp group called Texas Fit Chicks, which means I’m busting my booty 3 times a week at 5:30 am. 5:30am, y’all. I felt like just having my eyes open at 5am was an accomplishment, but I’ve really really grown to love my early morning workouts.
When I got the opportunity to get 4 free tickets to The Color Vibe 5K in Arlington, I couldn’t pass it up! I knew our big kids would love doing a color run and I thought this would be an easy way to convince Jeff to run it with me. I was right!
Of course, we didn’t love getting up early in the morning on a Saturday, but it turned out to be totally worth it.
I promise the guys were more excited than they looked, but here we are before the race started, all clean and white.
A 5K isn’t that much for people who run a lot, but I haven’t run one in about a year. My goal was to keep running for as long as I could, and to beat everyone in my family. We’re a family of smack talkers so that was important.
I was pretty proud of myself and knew that my Texas Fit Chicks boot camp workouts only helped me. I DID stop to walk twice, but it was for less than a minute each time. I finished the 5K in 33 minutes. Not too shabby for a girl who never runs.
The kids came in a few minutes behind me and Jeff, who was running in his first 5K, ever, came in just a couple of minutes behind them.
The kids loved getting covered in color and did a pretty good job of it!
My only regret is that we didn’t take the silliness up a notch. There were some silly looking people out there but it was funny. The whole goal is to have fun while we run and next time, we’re coming dressed for fun! There were tu-tus, funky socks, morph suits, etc. So funny!
Now I’m on the hunt for the next color run close to us. We all left looking forward to the next one we could run!
It was a good bonding morning for us with the big kids. I always love when we have the opportunity to do things with just them. I know they do, too.
And the next day, wow were we sore. Even as a regular boot camp-er, I guess those 5Ks can still bring on the pain! Nevertheless, I still can’t wait for the next one.
